  • Are London's Schools Meeting the Needs of Today's Young People - Kathryn Riley's Inaugural Professorial Lecture.

In this lecture, Kathryn Riley, Director of the London Education Research Unit (LERU) at the Institute of Education, proposes that high-achieving schools should receive financial incentives from the Government to take in the fully ability range of students living in London. In addition, the sum allocated to schools tackling social disadvantage should be significantly increased. She argues that this would help create a more diverse population of young Londoners who are more likely to value that cultural mix.

  • Education in a Global City: Essays from London

In 2007 LERU supported the publication of the book Education in a Global City: Essays from London, edited by Tim Brighouse and Leisha Fullick.

A collection of contributions from leading academics and practitioners, this book explores a multitude of themes and issues directly affected by the urban environment such as the quality of schools, staffing, governance, and funding.  It is designed and written to inform those who live and work in London but the contents will resonate with those who are operating in similar contexts in cities throughout the world.
