Key London Issues > Global Cities
LERU engagement with the Global Cities agenda comes with the aim of deepening our understanding of key London issues by gaining insights into other centres that have transcended nation-state boundaries and gained the status of global mega cities.
The Global Cities Index tracks the way cities perform on the global level, see the A.T Kearney, foreign policy magazine's website to access this (the index and a summary are available in our latest London Digest). London was recently ranked as overall leader for culture and art.
All the facts and figures of the Index paint a picture of a hyperdiverse London. This is one of the key ingredients that make London one of the lead global cities, but this same diversity is also one of its greatest challenges - especially in the classroom and the playground.
Our latest London Digest - Global Cities: Key education issues - contains summaries of research from eight other global cities, as well as London, and we have been running a Global Cities Series of London Seminars, including an afternoon seminar 'Languages of London'. Colleagues from Paris, New York and Australia have presented and we are looking forward to continuing this series in the autumn.
We have also started a Global Cities Education Network and if you are interested in becoming part of this please contact Dina Mehmedbegoviæ.
